According to reports, on Thursday April 13 in Newton, about a dozen people showed up to call for the cancellation of a drag show planned for Friday, April 14 at Newton North High School. More than 100 people came out to support the school's decision.

The small group of protesters held signs that read "Stop the Drag Show" and "Protect Our Children". Counter-protesters who included students, parents, teachers, and community members, held signs that read "We Love Our Drag Queens" and "Newton North Supports Diversity". They chanted "Love is love" and "Drag is art" as they faced the anti-drag demonstrators.

The performance went on as planned, featuring performances by students and professional drag queens. The event was organized by the school's Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) as part of a week-long celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and history.
